🤔 Was your interest piqued by our teaser last week?  It's time to talk about #fertility! We've prepared a handy infographic on the topic below – have a look! Did you know that: 👉 1/3 of infertility cases are caused by female factors, 1/3 by male factors and 1/3 by unexplained factors 👉 researchers in this field traditionally focus on female factors and most fertility solutions are therefore targeted towards women 👉 women undergoing fertility treatment feel high levels of stress, which makes them 30% less likely to fall pregnant What do you think about these figures? Please feel free to leave a comment and share your opinion!

To broodstock and hatchery managers : introducing FISH STOP How about easing your breeding procedure, by sampling males and females on different days? This is possible with FISH STOP, our sperm extender that immobilizes fish sperm and keeps them viable when refrigerated for several weeks. Our best result so far? 57 days before cessation of motility, of which 20 days with full motility! Key Benefits: ⏳Extended viability: store sperm for weeks 🗓️Flexibility: sample males once, fertilize another day, one or several times. 😌Ease of use: the solution is ready to use. No dilution required. ☣️Bio compatibility: Free of antibiotics, non-hazardous and biodegradable compounds If FISH STOP hasn’t been tested with your species yet, get a 50% discount on the first order. 🔬 Introducing AKYmed Remote CASA: Precision Sperm Analysis for Fish Reproduction and Aquaculture 🐟 What? Remote CASA service for detailed sperm motility and concentration analysis. Who? Ideal for fish researchers and aquaculture professionals Why? Save time and money and enhance breeding outcomes with accurate, remote sperm quality assessments (see more details below) How? Order a sampling kit, schedule a pickup date, and receive a comprehensive report within 48h.  Price? 12 CHF per sample, tax and shipment excluded. Dive deeper into how Remote CASA can streamline your work: https://lnkd.in/e4kAxx7T More details about why you should care about sperm quality: 🚀Enhanced Breeding Efficiency: Understanding sperm quality is crucial for effective breeding. High-quality sperm leads to higher fertilization rates, which in turn increases the output of your breeding program. 🧬Genetic Diversity Management: Are you pooling gametes of several males together? Did you know that sperm traits show heritability? Pooling sperm of several males will favor those with the best sperm and will apply (unintended) selection on the stock and reduce effective population size. How about mixing sperm of your breeders in an informed manner considering their sperm quality? 🩺Health Management: Poor sperm quality can be an indicator of health issues or environmental stress factors affecting your stock or even signs of inbreeding. By monitoring sperm quality, you can make early interventions to address potential problems, improving overall stock welfare and reducing losses. 💰Cost-Effectiveness: The precision and convenience of Remote CASA can significantly reduce the trial and error often associated with manual selection processes in breeding. By knowing exactly which specimens are the most viable for breeding, you can allocate resources more effectively, saving time and money. 🌟Future Planning: Long-term success in aquaculture depends on strategic planning and adaptability. The insights gained from Remote CASA analyses can inform not only immediate breeding decisions but also broader strategic planning concerning stock diversity, disease resilience, and production goals. #Aquaculture #FishResearch #SpermAnalysis #GeneticDiversity #AquacultureInnovation #RemoteCASA #casasystem #fish

🌿 A Step Forward in River Conservation: Introducing Atlantic Salmon Back to Swiss Waters In 2022, AKYmed took on a quietly ambitious project: to aid in the reintroduction of the Atlantic salmon into the Rhine river catchment, a species absent from our rivers for too long. In collaboration with local authorities and, we’ve started to create a sperm bank from wild Atlantic salmon, now housing over 800 samples at the Biopôle Lausanne campus. 🔍 Our Journey So Far: This winter marked a significant milestone for us. We undertook a pilot study involving over 6400 eggs, leading to approximately 75% developing into eyed embryos. Remarkably, some batches even exceeded a 90% fertilization rate, on par with or slightly better than results achieved with fresh sperm. 🌊 Our Motivation: The reintroduction project isn't just about bringing salmon back. It's about doing so in a way that honors their natural patterns of migration. By using genetic material from wild males that have made their way back from the North Sea, we aim to contribute to a sustainable re-population effort that respects the salmon's innate behaviors. 💧 Looking to the Future: While the final removal of migration barriers is still ahead of us, our work with salmon sperm aims to lay the groundwork for their return. We’re hopeful about expanding our efforts and, eventually, witnessing the return of the Atlantic salmon to our rivers. 🌱 A Hopeful Outlook: We’re on a journey, learning and growing as we go. Join us as we work towards a future where Atlantic salmon once again swim in Swiss rivers, a small but meaningful step towards ecological restoration. #ConservationGenetics #SalmonRecovery #Cryopreservation #BiotechInnovation #AKYmed #NOAHGENETICS #Atlanticsalmon #salmon
